I give special honors to John P Wheeler, III who was murdered on December, 31, 2010 in Delaware by an unknown assailant at this time. John Wheeler was a West Point graduate, an officer in the military and a Vietnam Veteran. I’m not familiar with his military career; I just know it was impressive. I got to know him through the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program (VVLP). He was the one that got it started along with Tom Pauken and President Reagan. The VVLP was a short-term project that lasted 2 years from 1982 through 1984 with a small national staff and one paid Vietnam Veteran Director in 50 locations throughout the United States. The plan was to change the way Vietnam Veterans were treated around the country since the Vietnam War. The 50 Vietnam Veterans organized other Vietnam Veterans for this purpose in their respective community. It worked. There were words of encouragement and appreciation, and memorials were showing up all over the country between 1982 and 1984. Also, John was instrumental in the Vietnam Veteran Memorial in Washington, DC being built. Vietnam Veterans cannot thank him enough. When I worked for the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program, he treated me with nothing but kindness and respect. I will never forget him. I hope other Vietnam Veterans will not forget him for what he has done to improve the appreciation from America that occurred as a result of his work and the work of others. I’m proud to say for a short time between 1982 and 1984, he was my boss. It’s my understanding John became an expert in cyber warfare. He was very concerned about the lack of America’s preparedness in cyber warfare before he was murdered. I hope any connection between his cyber warfare skills and his murder will be investigated. That’s my hyper-vigilance. John wrote a book in 1983, called “Touched With Fire, The Future of the Vietnam Generation”. I’m honored to be included in a few pages of his book. There are others from all over the country that he gave mention to as well. If you want a copy, you may be able to buy a copy used. The book’s called, “Touched With Fire, The Future of the Vietnam Generation” by John Wheeler.
