Rick Middleton, a handsome blonde-haired Marine from Mike Company 2/2 received a bullet in his chest November 1968.  The bullet left him paralyzed from the chest down.  From Vietnam, he was medvac’d to Guam, and eventually back to the VA in Arkansas.  While he was lying there paralyzed at the VA in Arkansas from the bullet wound; something strange happened.  Huffman heard years later after the 1st Mike Company reunion, the story Middleton told other Marines in Mike Company about Jane Fonda; the same Jane Fonda who pretended to shoot down American aircraft in N. Vietnam on camera while laughing.  The same Jane Fonda who belittled the prisoners of war while in N. Vietnam; the same Jane Fonda who belittled and presented betrayal words about the U.S. as she gave comfort to the enemy while Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen were dying in Vietnam.  Hanoi Jane as she is called asked Rick Middleton if he’d be interested in joining Vietnam Veterans Against the War after walking in his room out of the blue without being invited.  She offered him a nice pay and a nice big office.  A poster boy for Jane Fonda’s agenda.  Middleton told her, “open your own damn office; pay yourself, represent what you want, and I’ll watch the people of Arkansas laugh you out of town”.  Horrible Hanoi Jane was put in her place.  Rick Middleton moved on with his own rehabilitation and employment.  He became a Veterans representative with Paralyzed Veterans of America.  Middleton passed away as a result of complications from his wounds.  Middleton has taken the memory of what Hanoi Jane did to him when he was proud to serve his country to his grave decades later.
