DODGING BULLETS – TALES OF A BLIND MARINE ATTORNEY

DAVID L HUFFMAN, PARKERSBURG, WV

In Vietnam, David Huffman was blinded by a booby trap near a punji pit in an area called Dodge City, Quang Tri Province while with Mike Company 3/7, 1st Marine Division on 9/29/1968. The Marines gave the area in Quang Tri Province near Hill 55 the name “Dodge City” because Marines ran into ambushes, booby traps, and were dodging bullets in the area from snipers. When David was medivac’d home from Vietnam, he was a high school dropout. Since Vietnam, he kept his M16 cocked and loaded against his own head to come through for himself, his family, and eventually clients and others over the years.

He has tales of success and failures; and somehow through the grace of God and help from others, he accomplished what seemed to be the impossible. His experiences sometimes defy statistical odds. He tries to live a life of his Marine training: failure’s not an option. He has tales of a cat with nine lives. Like others, he stumbled along the way. After stumbling he asked forgiveness from God and from others. He contributes his ability to survive dodging bullets to his willingness to forgive others so that God will consider forgiving him as well. He believes forgiveness is the key to moving from point A to point B.

Dodging Bullets – Tales of David Huffman illustrates various images of his life from the time he was an orphan to the present.
