On 4/29/13 I took my niece April shopping then out to dinner.  My daughter Frankie and my sister Nancy were also there.  I wanted to get April something to wear for her birthday so she can remember me if something ever happened.  I bought her a ring.  Both her left ring finger and her right ring finger were occupied by her husband Ray’s wedding ring and by a ring that was given to her by my sister Nancy.  April had her middle finger next to her husband Ray’s wedding ring measured in order to have the new ring fitted.  She said, “I’m going to wear the ring Uncle David gave me on my middle finger in dedication to him.  When my Uncle David came back blind from Vietnam; he said “fuck you world; I’m going to make it and do what I want anyway”.  I consider April’s middle ring finger gesture a compliment.  I can’t take the credit; I had a lot of help along the way from others and hoped that I passed it on to others as well, but in order to do what I needed to do I needed to have the attitude “fuck you world; nothing’s going to stop me”.

Thank you April; I hope you say “fuck you too” with your current health problems. I continue to take one day at a time; I hope you take one day at a time as well.
