Although Huffman was blind, he felt he was in pretty good shape. He was competitive in Judo fighting against sighted people. He was used to exhausting his energy in spurts. One day Huffman learned a little bit about endurance. Huffman sometimes ran alongside the road holding on to Toner’s arm in order to get in shape. One day they decided to participate in a 10K run. It was in the middle of the summer of 1982. Huffman may have slowed Toner up a little bit but he felt he did a decent job during the 10K race until he noticed that someone unexpected finished in front of him; a pregnant woman. Training matters. The pregnant woman trained for long distance runs and was able to teach Huffman a little bit about endurance.
